Amid Tensions with North Korea and China, U.S. Senate Reaffirms Importance of U.S.-Korea Alliance Democratic Party Senator Jon Ossoff (Georgia). U.S. Senate

Amid ongoing tensions with China and North Korea, the U.S. Senate has sent a message that the United States regards South Korea as a steadfast security partner.

The office of Democratic Party Senator Jon Ossoff (Georgia), one of the pro-Korea members of the U.S. Congress, announced in a press release on June 26 (local time) that he contributed to the passage of a bipartisan Senate resolution commemorating the 75th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War and the strength of the U.S.-Korea alliance.

This resolution was prepared to mark the 75th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War. Unlike laws, Senate resolutions do not have binding legal force on their own, but they represent the official position of Congress and carry diplomatic significance.

The resolution consists of six articles, including the first article, which states that "the U.S. Senate honors the courage, sacrifice, and service of U.S. and allied forces who fought to protect the people of Korea from the aggression of the North Korean Communist Party, China, and the Soviet Union."

It goes on to state, "The Senate recognizes South Korea as a key ally and cornerstone of peace, security, trade, and democratic values in Northeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific region," and "acknowledges the enduring legacy of the Korean War in shaping U.S. defense policy and alliance relationships in the Indo-Pacific region."

The Senate particularly "reaffirms the United States' commitment to maintaining a strong, modern, and fully prepared military force capable of deterring aggression and protecting national security interests," and "calls for continued investment in the training, equipping, and support of U.S. service members to ensure military readiness across all domains, including land, sea, air, space, and cyber."

Finally, the Senate "urges the American people to remember the Korean War not as the 'Forgotten War,' but as a 'Noble War'?an effort that protected the freedom of millions and symbolizes the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of U.S. forces," it added.
