Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, has announced his intention to run for a third term.
On June 26, Governor Kim held a press conference at the provincial government office to mark the third anniversary of the launch of the 8th civil election term. He stated, "I am currently focused on provincial administration," but added, "Although I have been working since the 7th civil election term, there is still much left to accomplish."
This effectively signals his intention to run in the next gubernatorial election.
Governor Kim also said, "In the case of establishing a national medical school, about 80% of the issues are on the verge of being resolved, but even if 99% is resolved, the remaining 1% must be addressed to truly complete it," emphasizing, "I will do my utmost until the very end."
He also shared his position on the issue of the integrated relocation of the Gwangju civil and military airports, which was raised during the town hall meeting with President Lee Jaemyung, Gwangju citizens, and Jeonnam residents held on June 25.
Governor Kim stated, "Since the President has directly ordered the formation of a task force, I believe the issue will be resolved well," and added, "We will make every effort to establish groundbreaking national support measures at the government level."
Meanwhile, in his official press statement, Governor Kim highlighted the following as major achievements of the three years of the 8th civil election term: stabilization of the local economy and expansion of welfare, leading the energy transition and innovation in advanced industries, fostering the growth of an attractive Jeonnam, laying the foundation for innovation in future advanced agriculture and fisheries, and initiating large-scale expansion of social overhead capital (SOC).
