The Gwangju Community Chest of Korea (hereafter referred to as Gwangju Sarangui Yeolmae) announced on June 26 that Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) has donated 200 million won to the "Love Energy Sharing" program to support electricity bills for low-income energy-vulnerable groups.
The "Love Energy Sharing" program is a representative social contribution initiative that KEPCO has consistently implemented since 2003 to support energy welfare for vulnerable groups during the summer and winter seasons. The donated funds will be used to assist marginalized groups nationwide, including basic livelihood security recipients, the near-poor, and people with disabilities. The support funds will provide up to 150,000 won for households with residential electricity bills overdue for two months or more.
This program will be conducted by dividing the summer and winter periods until March next year. The beneficiaries will be selected from among low-income vulnerable groups who have overdue electricity bills for two months or more. Electricity bill arrears will be supported up to 150,000 won, and households whose electricity bills are included in apartment management fees will be excluded.
A KEPCO representative stated, "Through the Love Energy Sharing program, we are delivering warm care and compassion by supporting overdue electricity bills for vulnerable households during periods of extreme heat and cold," adding, "We will continue to promote social contribution activities that the public can truly feel, leveraging our expertise in the energy sector and the unique characteristics of the power industry."
Park Cheolhong, president of the Gwangju Community Chest of Korea, said, "I am pleased that this donation will allow many households struggling to pay their electricity bills to receive support," and added, "Through cooperation with KEPCO, I hope that the basic right to energy will be guaranteed and that we can contribute to the stability of vulnerable groups' lives."
