Cowellmedi Completes Second Factory in Busan, Secures Smart Production Base for Global Market Expansion

Cowellmedi Co., Ltd., a company specializing in dental implants, successfully held the completion ceremony for its second factory on June 24 at the Busan Eco Delta City Advanced Urban Industrial Complex.

This completion marks more than just an expansion of production facilities; it is seen as a stepping stone for accelerating entry into the global market, as it is part of building a global smart factory that integrates advanced automation technology with research and development (R&D) infrastructure.

The event was attended by all Cowellmedi employees, as well as key figures from the dental and industrial sectors, including Park Hyungjun, the Mayor of Busan, the head of Gangseo District, the President of the Korean Dental Association, and the President of the Busan Dental Association. Starting with the opening declaration at 10 a.m., the official schedule included a welcome speech by CEO Kim Suhong, congratulatory remarks from guests, a progress report, and a promotional video screening. This was followed by a plaque of appreciation presentation, a celebratory performance, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, VIP commemorative photography, and a group photo of all employees. At the end of the event, a ‘center tour’ was held, allowing participants to directly tour the newly completed smart factory.

Cowellmedi was founded in 1994 by Dr. Kim Suhong, who developed Korea’s first domestically produced dental implant. The company has since produced a variety of dental medical devices?including implants, bone graft materials, and digital guide systems?using its own proprietary technology. Notably, in 2010, Cowellmedi became the first in the world to commercialize E.coli-based recombinant protein bone morphogenetic protein (E.rhBMP-2), branded as COWELL® BMP, earning recognition as a technology leader in the global biomedical market.

The newly completed second factory is located in Industrial Block 14 of Busan Eco Delta City, offering a strategic location with excellent access to Gimhae International Airport, Busan New Port, and the upcoming Gadeokdo New Airport. Based on this, Cowellmedi has secured both smooth global export capabilities and enhanced logistics competitiveness.

The second factory is a smart complex facility where research, production, logistics, administration, promotion, education, and welfare functions are organically integrated. The interior has been optimized by function to maximize spatial density and efficiency. Utility spaces such as corridors and stairwells are centrally located to minimize movement, and the latest automated production lines and R&D facilities are seamlessly connected, enabling high-speed production and high-quality manufacturing.

In terms of production capacity, this factory is expected to expand up to six times compared to the previous facility. As a result, the company’s supply responsiveness in the global market is expected to be significantly strengthened, while the operation of facilities incorporating advanced technologies will provide a foundation for meeting international standards in quality management.

Cowellmedi also plans to utilize the second factory as a platform for industrial exchange, hosting academic seminars for domestic and international dentists, product exhibitions, and manufacturing process tours, as well as a variety of educational and promotional programs.

A Cowellmedi representative emphasized, "The second factory is a core base supporting our global growth strategy. It is a strategic facility not only for expanding quantitative production, but also for improving quality, advancing technological capabilities, and meeting international standards. With this completion, we aim to further enhance the global standing of Korea’s dental industry and strengthen our sustainable manufacturing and research foundation."
