Prosecutors Seek 2-Year Prison Term for Shin Se-kyung's Malicious Commenter... Agency Says "No Leniency" Actor Shin Se-kyung. The Present Company

Prosecutors have requested a two-year prison sentence for the malicious commenter who has harassed actor Shin Se-kyung for several years.

On June 26, Shin Se-kyung's agency, The Present Company, announced, "Prosecutors have requested a two-year prison sentence for the defendant who was indicted on charges of persistent cyberbullying against actor Shin Se-kyung."

The agency continued, "The defendant repeatedly engaged in threats, malicious slander, dissemination of false information, and insulting remarks, not only toward the actor herself but also toward her fans, family, and acquaintances, anonymously through online platforms over a long period of time. As a result, not only the actor but also those around her have suffered severe emotional distress. The defendant was arrested by the police and is currently awaiting the verdict of the first trial. This is an unprecedented measure in cases involving malicious comments."

The agency also stated that it has secured a significant amount of additional evidence related to malicious posts and commenters, and that it plans to respond to any similar cases in the future with the same strict standards.

During the trial, the defendant's legal representative appealed for leniency, stating, "The defendant, who has been living in seclusion, hopes to return to society and is currently working a part-time job for 14 hours a week." It was also reported that the defendant admitted to all charges.

The agency emphasized, "We place the highest priority on protecting the legal rights and interests of our artists and employees, and we will not consider any leniency for the perpetrator."

Furthermore, the agency added, "If similar acts occur in the future, we will respond firmly and decisively using all available legal means. To prevent repeated suffering of many innocent people due to someone's distorted desires, perpetrators must be held fully accountable in accordance with the principles of law and justice, no matter how long it takes."
