Busan to Launch Dedicated Team for Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Relocation in July

The Busan Metropolitan Government will establish a "Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Relocation Support Team" on July 1, 2025, to facilitate the prompt relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. This measure is intended to accelerate preparations for the relocation in line with the new administration's pledge to move the ministry.

The support team will be responsible for overseeing the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and related maritime public institutions, handling practical matters such as moving into new office buildings, assisting employee relocation, and ensuring adequate living conditions. The city of Busan is also preparing specific support measures, including securing temporary office space, providing special housing allocations, supporting children's education, and offering tax benefits.

Previously, on June 24, 2025, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries also formed its own dedicated task force to begin preparing an implementation plan for the relocation to Busan.

At the 22nd Busan Future Innovation Conference held on June 18, 2025, the Busan Metropolitan Government emphasized the necessity of relocating the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and integrating maritime public institutions. With the establishment of the new organization in just two weeks, discussions on the relocation are expected to enter a more systematic and actionable phase.

Park Hyungjoon, Mayor of Busan, stated, "By establishing this new team, we will secure the momentum needed to advance our policies and actively support the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries in settling in the region." He added, "We will make every effort to ensure that this relocation is not merely a physical move, but the starting point for balanced regional development."
