The cleanliness and odor issues in the showers at the Sangmu National Sports Center in Seo-gu, Gwangju have seen significant improvement three months after multiple complaints were filed.
Taejin Kim, a member of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council (Progressive Party), stated during a five-minute free speech session at the 331st regular session’s third plenary meeting held on June 25 that a survey conducted last month among users of the Sangmu National Sports Center (with 121 participants) showed that 97% reported no unpleasant odors.

In response to the complaints, the Seo-gu District Office and Seo-gu Facilities Management Corporation treated the shower drains with cleaning chemicals and installed external traps on the shower drains.
More recently, a joint inspection by the district office, the corporation, and a specialized company checked the condition of the P-trap above the machine room and replaced the trap ventilator in the accessible restroom drain. In addition, the cleaning procedures for the showers have been systematized.
On June 26, Council Member Kim stated, "With the summer season approaching, we expect more citizens to use the Sangmu National Sports Center," and added, "We will further expand the cleaning staff at the center to maintain a higher standard of cleanliness and promote a healthy lifestyle sports culture for citizens."
