The 10th administrative enforcement, carried out over two days from June 23 to 24, involved a total of 95 personnel and equipment, including staff from Paju City, the fire department, and the police. Partial demolition was conducted on illegally expanded waiting rooms and auxiliary facilities in a total of four buildings that violated construction regulations.
This round of enforcement included establishments that had continued to operate up to this point, and while some backlash from business owners was anticipated, the city’s consistent administrative measures and ongoing crackdowns resulted in the operation concluding without any major conflicts or safety incidents.
The administrative enforcement aims to shut down operations by partially demolishing illegal waiting rooms and auxiliary facilities closely linked to prostitution businesses. The city plans to continue strong administrative actions, including repeated enforcement operations and the imposition of compulsory fines, until the closure of the red-light district is fully achieved.
Of the 82 buildings subject to administrative enforcement, 77 buildings?or 94%?have already been addressed through various means: 31 buildings through administrative enforcement (including partial demolition), 40 buildings through voluntary correction by owners, and 6 buildings through city acquisition and demolition.
A Paju City official emphasized, "Regardless of whether businesses are currently operating, we will continue administrative enforcement against illegal structures such as waiting rooms and storage facilities to completely block both ongoing operations and attempts to relocate. We will mobilize every administrative measure available, including repeated imposition of compulsory fines, to eradicate illegal prostitution businesses."
