Regarding some voices within the People Power Party calling for the next leadership to be organized as a collective leadership system, Ahn Cheolsu, a member of the People Power Party, stated, "A collective leadership system is not acceptable for the innovation of our party at this time."
On June 26, Ahn wrote on his Facebook account, "A collective leadership system is nothing more than a mutated hydra that cannot take even a single step forward."
Ahn emphasized that the People Power Party stands at a crossroads between life and death, stating, "A final decision that will determine the fate of conservatism is needed." He stressed that what is needed in the face of crisis is "strong and innovative leadership," and that in order to save the party, everything from the top down to the very end must be changed. He added, "To fundamentally reform the party, a single leadership with clear authority and responsibility is absolutely necessary."
Ahn pointed out that under a collective leadership system, it would be difficult to escape factional infighting, internal conflicts between camps, and power struggles, saying, "Under the pretext of consultation and coordination, only time will be wasted, innovation will be lost, and the party will once again fall into the swamp of division."
He reiterated that a collective leadership system would ultimately degenerate into nothing more than sharing positions under the guise of legitimacy, and emphasized once again that what the People Power Party needs is "strong leadership with full authority for innovation." He added, "There is nowhere to retreat and no time to hesitate. Without self-innovation as painful as cutting flesh and shaving bone, there will be no victory in the future."
