Open Source AI Agent Supports Developer Tasks
Up to 60 Model Requests per Minute, 1,000 per Day Free
Google Cloud announced on June 26 that it is offering a preview version of its artificial intelligence (AI) assistant for developers, 'Gemini CLI,' free of charge. CLI (Command Line Interface) refers to a method of interacting with a computer based on text commands.
On this day, Google Cloud unveiled Gemini CLI, an open-source AI agent that allows users to directly utilize Gemini's features within the terminal. The terminal is a window where users enter commands to perform tasks on a computer.
Gemini CLI provides an environment in which developers can use Gemini so that the Gemini model can immediately process prompts as they are entered. It can be used for a wide range of tasks, including coding, content creation, problem-solving, in-depth research, and task management.
Anyone with a personal Google account can use Gemini CLI for free. Gemini CLI is integrated into Google's AI coding support tool, Gemini Code Assist, and users can receive a free license for Gemini Code Assist by logging in with their Google account. During the preview period, users can make up to 60 model requests per minute and 1,000 model requests per day free of charge.
Gemini CLI offers AI capabilities in all areas, including code comprehension, file manipulation, command execution, and dynamic problem-solving. It also helps developers by enabling them to write code, solve problems, and streamline workflows using natural language.
Gemini CLI is fully open source under the Apache 2.0 license, allowing developers to review the code to understand how it works and verify its security implications.
