"We Must Stand Up Against the Arrogance and Self-Righteousness of the Dominant Ruling Party"
Song Eonseok, floor leader of the People Power Party, announced on June 26 that the party would form an internal task force (TF) to block what he called the legislative overreach of the Democratic Party of Korea.
At a general meeting of party lawmakers held at the National Assembly that day, Song said, "The Democratic Party has shown no willingness to compromise regarding the allocation of standing committees and is now setting the stage for a legislative blitz," explaining the decision.
Song criticized, "There is a strong push to force through all sorts of harmful legislation, including a supplementary budget of 30 trillion won in cash handouts, which has been criticized as a congratulatory gift for President Lee Jaemyung's election victory, the Yellow Envelope Act and amendments to the Commercial Act, which are opposed by both large corporations and small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as the four agricultural bills that Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Song Miryeong has criticized."
He went on to say, "We must block the Democratic Party's runaway legislative drive with a level of passion and determination that is completely different from our time as the ruling party, and by standing united with the people." He urged lawmakers, "Please prepare thoroughly for the ministerial confirmation hearings and actively engage in public outreach to counter the legislative blitz."
Song added, "As a minority opposition party, I understand the sense of frustration and helplessness lawmakers may feel, but we must recognize the role and responsibility that the people and history have entrusted to the opposition." He stressed, "We must shake off any sense of defeat, unite as one, and fight against the arrogance and self-righteousness of the dominant ruling party."
