Warm Companion Hosts Event for Ethiopian Korean War Veterans

Supporting Spatial Welfare in Cooperation with HanmiGlobal
Chairman Jonghun Kim: "We Will Continue Our Support"

On June 26, Warm Companion, a social welfare foundation, announced that it had hosted a gathering with Ethiopian Korean War veterans and their families to mark the 75th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War. HanmiGlobal, a company specializing in construction project management (PM), also participated in the event.

Attending the event were Tilahun Tesema Game (100), a war veteran who fought on the front lines in Gangwon Province in 1952, and his family member Senbeta Mamite Hunde (73). Tilahun returned to Korean soil for the first time in 73 years since the end of the Korean War. He arrived in Korea on June 19 at the invitation of Yangpo Church in Pohang.

Chairman Jonghun Kim presented a plaque of appreciation and paid tribute to Tilahun's sacrifices during the war. Tilahun said, "I fought fiercely on the battlefield at a young age, and seeing how much Korea has developed brings tears to my eyes. I am deeply moved by your warm welcome."

After learning that Tilahun had to walk 200 meters to use a bathroom because there was none inside his home, Warm Companion improved his living environment by installing a flush toilet and a water tank.

Warm Companion has been carrying out spatial welfare support projects for about 100 households of war veterans and families with disabilities in countries including Ethiopia, Vietnam, T?rkiye, and the Philippines. The foundation is also pursuing global welfare projects in line with the standards of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

At the event, Ha Okseon, head of the NGO "KFEKCO (Korean Friends Ethiopia and Kagnew Charitable Organization)," which supports veterans and their families in Ethiopia, was appointed as a branch director for cooperation. This measure aims to strengthen the expertise and sustainability of the spatial welfare support projects.

Chairman Kim said, "I am deeply grateful to those who sacrificed for the Republic of Korea. I hope that all wars on Earth will come to an end. We will continue our support projects for Ethiopian war veterans and their communities."

Founded in 2010, Warm Companion has been carrying out various initiatives with the goal of creating a "warm world without barriers for people with disabilities," including spatial welfare support, distribution of advanced assistive devices, job creation, and support for North Korean defectors and vulnerable groups overseas.
