Inviting a Clinical Nutrition Expert, Offering Practical Methods
Providing Useful Information for Chronic Disease Prevention
POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (headed by Ko Jaeyoon) announced on June 26 that it held a special lecture on healthy eating habits for the prevention of chronic diseases at Baegun Art Hall in Geumho-dong, Gwangyang, on June 24.
Under the belief that "the health of employees is the company's competitiveness," Gwangyang Steelworks has been operating various programs to promote employee health. To prevent chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia, and to help employees develop healthy eating habits, the company organized a lecture by an external expert for the second time this year, following a similar event in April.

In particular, Gwangyang Steelworks employs eight professional nutritionists to systematically manage the health of its employees. The company also provides well-being lunch boxes, consisting of vegetables, fruits, nuts, and meat, so that on-site workers can enjoy balanced meals.
With about 210 employees, their families, partner companies, and local residents attending the lecture, Simeong, a clinical nutritionist who has delivered health lectures at various companies and institutions, led the session.
Simeong emphasized, "Once chronic diseases develop, they are difficult to cure and can significantly reduce quality of life," adding, "Prevention is most important, so it is essential to start by correcting eating habits, which are the foundation of prevention."
The lecture provided explanations on the types and risks of chronic diseases, along with practical tips that busy professionals can implement in their daily lives, such as reducing sodium intake, eating fresh vegetables and fruits, and ensuring balanced nutrition. Customized advice was also given for employees with irregular sleep patterns due to shift work, which was met with a positive response.
Song Jun, an employee at Gwangyang Steelworks who attended the lecture, said, "At some point, I started making excuses and developed irregular eating habits, but this lecture made me realize I should start making small changes." He added, "I hope lectures that provide such useful information for everyday life are held more often."
Meanwhile, Gwangyang Steelworks is actively taking the lead in creating a healthy workplace by providing in-house and external psychological counseling support, regular health checkups, a spouse health checkup system, anti-smoking campaigns, and heat illness prevention campaigns to promote employee health.
