A man in his twenties who posted online threats announcing plans to kill elementary school students and unspecified women, as well as threats involving explosives and arson, has been arrested and referred to the prosecution.
The Seoul Jungnang Police Station announced on June 26 that the suspect has been arrested and referred for prosecution on charges including violation of the Child Welfare Act, intimidation, obstruction of official duties by fraudulent means, and violation of the Act on the Protection of Children and Juveniles from Sexual Abuse.
The suspect is accused of posting various threats of murder and terrorism on internet communities from around October last year to around February this year.
On December 3, 2024, the man allegedly posted a threatening message on an internet community board, announcing plans to kill a student at an elementary school in Jungnang-gu. He is also accused of posting multiple murder threats targeting women at Seoul Dongduk Women's University, Seoul Sungshin Women's University, Bucheon Station, and Busan Station. In addition, he posted messages claiming to have installed explosives at multi-use facilities such as KINTEX, and posted a message announcing plans to commit arson at the Constitutional Court.
The police also charged him with obstruction of official duties by fraudulent means, holding him responsible for the waste of public resources caused by the emergency deployment of police forces in response to his threats.
Authorities also found evidence that the suspect posted, distributed, and possessed child sexual exploitation materials.
