Scientific Analysis of the Forest Environment at the Natural Recreation Forest
Sacheon City in South Gyeongsang Province has conducted a scientific analysis of the forest environment at the Sacheon Cable Car Natural Recreation Forest in collaboration with the Forest Welfare Research and Development Center of the Korea Forest Welfare Institute.
According to the city on June 26, air quality measurements at the Sacheon Cable Car Natural Recreation Forest showed that the level of phytoncides was significantly higher?about three times?compared to hinoki forests in other regions (772.74 pptv), with a measured value of 2047.9 pptv. Among the detected phytoncide components, alpha-pinene, sabinene, and p-cymene were found in particularly high concentrations.
Alpha-pinene is effective in cancer prevention, antioxidation, and promoting brainwave activity. Sabinene is known for its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, skin regeneration, and whitening effects. P-cymene helps alleviate rheumatism, relieve pain, and promote blood circulation.
In addition, when combined with phytoncides, negative ions?which are effective in alleviating lethargy, anxiety, and depression, improving sleep quality, and reducing fine dust?were found to be more than three times higher (556 ions/cm³) than those measured in urban areas (186 ions/cm³). Harmful substances (BTEXs) were about ten times lower (960.3 pptv) compared to urban areas (9429.6 pptv).
These results scientifically demonstrate that the abundant forest resources (hinoki cypress forests) of the Sacheon Cable Car Natural Recreation Forest provide a truly clean and healing environment.
A city official stated, "We hope that many people will take advantage of the forest experience facilities and trails at the Sacheon Cable Car Natural Recreation Forest to heal their tired bodies and minds."
