Pianist Seongjin Cho has been awarded the "Instrumentalist of the Year" prize at the German classical music awards, Opus Klassik.

According to the official Opus Klassik website on June 25 (local time), Seongjin Cho was named among the winners for his album "Ravel: Complete Works for Solo Piano," which was released to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Ravel's birth. The album features all of Ravel's solo piano works as well as two concertos.

The "Instrumentalist of the Year" award was jointly given to Seongjin Cho, German violinist Antje Weithaas, and French trumpet player Lucienne Renaudin Vary.

Opus Klassik is an awards ceremony organized by the German Classical Music Promotion Association. It has been held since 2018 as the successor to the German music award "Echo Klassik," which began in 1994. The judging panel consists of 11 classical music experts, including musicians, record label representatives, and journalists.

This year, winners were selected in 30 categories, including male and female vocalists, conductors, composers, orchestras, and solo albums. Japanese pianist Hayato Sumino won two awards: "Young Talent of the Year" and "Solo Performance of the Year."

The awards ceremony will take place in Berlin, Germany, from October 10 to October 12.
