The city of Gwangju has successfully attracted $4 million in foreign direct investment (FDI).

On the afternoon of the 25th, Gwangju signed a tripartite investment agreement (MOU) in the city hall business room with Aegis, a domestic manufacturer of insulation and special glass processing equipment, and LiSEC GmbH, an Austrian specialist in glass processing equipment.

This agreement is the result of the city’s active efforts to attract future-oriented industries and revitalize the local economy. Aegis plans to establish a smart factory-based next-generation glass processing equipment manufacturing facility in the Gwangju High-Tech Industrial Complex. The total investment amounts to $4 million (approximately 4 billion KRW), and the project is expected to create 10 new jobs.

The signing ceremony was attended by Mayor Kang Gijeong, Aegis CEO Kim Namjin, and LiSEC KOREA co-CEOs Anna Tanyeli and Kim Saebom.

The manufacturing facility is scheduled to break ground in July and begin full-scale operations in November. The companies cited several reasons for choosing Gwangju as their investment destination: the AI-based smart manufacturing ecosystem, excellent residential conditions and infrastructure, and a technology support system linked to industrial complexes.

Based on its national AI data center and research support platforms, Gwangju is strengthening its smart manufacturing foundation by connecting strategic industrial hubs such as Advanced District 3 and Bitgreen Industrial Complex.

Under the agreement, the city promised to provide administrative services necessary for investment implementation, guide the companies on production-based technology infrastructure, and offer various incentives such as tax reductions and subsidies. In addition, the city plans to support the recruitment of skilled personnel and encourage the preferential hiring of local talent, thereby contributing to local economic revitalization and job creation.

Aegis is a small but strong company in the smart glass processing equipment sector, known for its rapid design and production response capabilities, and has built global competitiveness through joint development with overseas partners. LiSEC GmbH, established in 1961, is a world-renowned specialist in automated glass processing equipment, supplying advanced glass solutions to more than 100 countries and earning a reputation for high technological capability and reliability.

Mayor Kang Gijeong stated, "This joint investment has laid the foundation for Gwangju to grow as a hub of smart manufacturing," and emphasized, "We will continue our investment attraction efforts to enhance our status as a city of future industries."
