On the morning of the 25th, the Administrative and Autonomy Committee of the Gwangju City Council conducted on-site inspections, including a visit to the Disaster Comprehensive Situation Room, to prevent damage during the rainy season. The purpose of the visit was to check the disaster response system in preparation for the upcoming rainy season and to strengthen preventive measures in order to minimize potential damage.
The committee members visited the Disaster Comprehensive Situation Room and the 119 Comprehensive Situation Room to listen to reports on their operations. They then inspected the construction site of the rainwater retention facility in Usan-dong, Gwangsan-gu, which is scheduled for completion in January next year, to check on the progress. At the site, the committee members emphasized the importance of meeting the completion deadline and managing the quality of the structures, and listened to the challenges faced by those involved in the construction.
In particular, together with officials from the Gwangju City disaster management department, they inspected the status of the automatic barrier system at the Shindeok underpass in case of flooding, as well as the condition of water barriers installed in apartment underground parking lots with city support. They also discussed areas for improvement and efficient management systems to prevent flooding in disaster-prone areas.
Committee Chairperson An Pyunghwan stated, "Thorough pre-inspections and a prompt response system are the key to minimizing damage from storms and floods during the rainy season," adding, "The City Council will also pay special attention and do its utmost to ensure the safety of citizens."
