The event was jointly organized by Jeonnam Province, Shinan-gun, Shinan Fisheries Cooperative, and local fishing village associations. It was carried out with the goal of restoring aquatic resources and creating a sustainable fishing environment. The released seeds included 20,000 cuttlefish measuring at least 1.0 cm in total length and 100,000 webfoot octopuses measuring at least 0.5 cm in total length. The Jeonnam Marine and Fisheries Science Institute systematically managed the entire process, from inducing spawning to conducting preliminary impact assessments.
Kim stated, "Amid the climate crisis, changes in the marine ecosystem are accelerating," and emphasized, "Fishermen, government agencies, and the council must work together to create an environment where the released seeds can grow healthily and return."
He also stressed, "The Jeonnam Provincial Council's Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Committee will actively support efforts to simultaneously achieve both goals of increasing fishermen's income and protecting resources."
Meanwhile, Jeonnam Province has been continuously expanding its public-private cooperative project for the creation of aquatic resources since signing an agreement with the Shinan Fisheries Cooperative last year.
