On June 25, the Chungnam Fire Headquarters conducted a capability enhancement training to ensure uninterrupted wireless communication using the Mugunghwa 6A satellite in the event that fire department wireless communication becomes unavailable due to a large-scale disaster.

The training took place in Myeonggok Village, Yugueup, Gongju City, an area where the actual wireless communication (UHF network) signal is weak.

The training consisted of three stages: an explanation of the equipment functions in the first stage, a demonstration of equipment usage in the second stage, and a practical scenario-based drill in the third stage. Through these stages, participants learned how to utilize the demonstrated functions in real situations such as wildfires, and worked to strengthen their response capabilities.

The fire headquarters' satellite vehicle has been operated since March 2012 after being transferred from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. It provides essential functions for on-site command and operations, including wireless communication for field command, disaster video transmission, and video conferencing.

In addition, the fire headquarters has established a system linking the fire department's wireless communication network (UHF) with the disaster safety communication network, enabling not only firefighters but also supporting agencies to communicate via satellite.

Seong Hoseon, head of the Chungnam Fire Headquarters, stated, "Through this capability enhancement training for the satellite-based fire wireless communication system, which has been established to respond in the event of communication failure, we will do our utmost to respond promptly and without hesitation to any disaster and to safeguard the safety of the residents."
