Daejeon City announced on June 25 that it held a meeting at the National Assembly with local lawmakers to discuss turning regional pledges into national policy tasks and securing national funding.

The meeting was attended by Mayor Jangwoo Lee, as well as Democratic Party lawmakers Beomgye Park (Seogu-eul), Seungrae Cho (Yuseong-gap), Jongtae Jang (Seogu-gap), Yonggap Park (Junggu), and Jeonga Hwang (Yuseong-gu-eul).

During the meeting, the city requested support to ensure that ten major projects?including the second phase relocation of public institutions to the innovation city, the phased undergrounding of railways, and the construction of the Chungcheong Region Express Train (CTX)?would be adopted as national policy tasks.

Additionally, in preparation for the 2026 main budget review, the city called for cooperation to ensure ten key pending projects are reflected in the budget, including the construction of Urban Railway Line 2 (tram), the opening of a road between Sajeonggyo and Hanbatgyo, and the cultivation of talent for space technology innovation.

Mayor Jangwoo Lee stated, "Reflecting our projects in national policy and securing national funding is all about timing, so we need the active cooperation of the lawmakers. We will actively identify projects that align with the government’s policy direction, and I ask everyone to join forces, especially by serving as a bridge with the National Policy Planning Committee, so that our regional pledges can be realized in concrete terms."

He added, "The core issues for Daejeon City must be backed by national funding, and we will actively participate in the process of formulating next year’s main budget. Recent discussions about relocating the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries or government-funded research institutes are untimely and require public debate."

Seungrae Cho emphasized, "This is a time to explore the new administration’s policy direction. For projects that saw slow progress under the previous government, we need to conduct a thorough analysis and prepare alternatives."

The city plans to continue expanding its consultation channels with central government ministries to realize the adoption of regional pledges as national policy tasks. In addition, Daejeon City will make every effort to secure national funding by maintaining close communication with both ruling and opposition parties during the upcoming National Assembly budget review process.
