Jeollanamdo held a meeting on June 24 to review flood damage prevention and response measures, as concerns about coastal flooding are rising in coastal areas due to higher sea levels during the spring tide period (June 25-27). The province inspected its rapid response system for tidal disasters together with cities, counties, and the fire headquarters.

The meeting was attended by the heads of disaster and maritime affairs from the Coastal Ports Division and Natural Disaster Division of Jeollanamdo, as well as from 13 coastal cities and counties including Mokpo, Jindo, and Yeosu. The agenda included sharing weather forecasts and past damage cases, explaining key management items, and discussing response plans and on-site action directions.

Jeollanamdo plans to strengthen on-site patrols and inspections in areas at risk of flooding during this spring tide period, as Mokpo and Jindo are forecasted to enter the "caution" level for coastal flooding. The province will intensify detailed measures such as preemptive evacuation of residents, inspection of drainage facilities, and securing of vessels, according to the response plan for each sea level stage.

Kang Younggu, Director of the Provincial Safety Office of Jeollanamdo, emphasized, "Flooding during the spring tide can have a significant impact on residents' lives and property in a short time, so preemptive evacuation and on-site action are extremely important." He urged, "Please strengthen monitoring of flood-prone areas such as low-lying coastal zones, ports, and piers, and strictly adhere to the principle of evacuating before sunset."

Jeollanamdo is also defining flood boundary zones based on real-time tidal level information, actively promoting resident action guidelines through village broadcasts and text alerts, and making every effort to minimize flood damage through close cooperation with related agencies.
