Damyang County in South Jeolla Province announced on the 25th that it held a training session for local food producers with around 200 participants on the 24th at Bongsan Nonghyup.

The mandatory training for local food producers who supply to direct sales stores, conducted in accordance with the Agricultural Cooperatives Act, aims to strengthen the safety management capabilities and distribution efficiency of producers by ensuring compliance with pesticide residue standards (PLS) and by improving understanding of the shipping and delivery processes.

Accordingly, among the five local food initiatives in Damyang County, Goseo and Subuk Nonghyup held a training session for about 500 participants in April. Bongsan Nonghyup plans to hold a second session for around 150 participants on July 1, and Damyang and Changpyeong Nonghyup are scheduled to hold sessions in the second half of the year with 200 and 100 participants, respectively.

In addition to the mandatory training, the county is supporting producers' quality management capabilities by allocating an annual budget of approximately 140 million won for pesticide inspection fees and packaging material support for local food products.

County Governor Jeong Cheolwon stated, "We will continue to actively support producers so they can produce safe agricultural products, adhering to the fundamental principle of 'consumer-first policy' that prioritizes consumer trust."

Meanwhile, more than 1,300 farms participate in Damyang County's five local food initiatives, which have shown steady sales growth every year. Last year, by leveraging its geographical proximity to Gwangju and promoting consumer events such as kimchi-making experiences, the county achieved sales of 16 billion won.
