Forensic Results: Electrical Cause and Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

The fire that broke out in an apartment in Gaegeum-dong, Busanjin-gu, Busan (as reported on this outlet's online edition on June 24) has been confirmed to have started due to an electrical cause. The number of children who died in this accident has increased to two.

The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency and fire authorities announced on June 25 that, according to the results of a joint inspection conducted on June 24, "The fire is presumed to have started and spread from an electrical cause at the outlet in the living room where power cords for electronic devices such as a computer were connected."

A 7-year-old girl who had been in critical condition due to the fire died during treatment on the morning of June 25. The 10-year-old girl who died the previous day was confirmed through an autopsy to have died from carbon monoxide poisoning. For the 7-year-old girl, funeral procedures will proceed without an autopsy in accordance with the wishes of her family.
