Miryang City and Korail Tourism Development Sign MOU to Promote Tourism through Rail Connections

Attracting Stay-Type Tourists
Revitalizing the Local Economy

Miryang City in South Gyeongsang Province signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Korail Tourism Development in the small conference room at City Hall to promote local tourism through rail connections.

The agreement, signed on June 24, aims to establish a foundation for stay-type tourism utilizing rail infrastructure and to revitalize the local economy by attracting more tourists.

The two organizations will cooperate in a variety of areas, including: developing and operating rail tourism products linked to local festivals such as the Miryang Arirang Grand Festival; conducting joint marketing with the Miryang City DMO Council (including the Miryang Culture and Tourism Foundation and the Miryang City Tourism Council); operating social contribution-type tourism programs; and strengthening cooperation in promoting rail-based tourism.

Taking this agreement as an opportunity, Miryang City plans to lead the way in mutual growth with the local community and realizing tourism welfare by operating rail-linked programs that respond to summer and autumn stay-type tourism demand. These programs include the "Water Festival" and "Eoreumgol" linked programs, which will be held for the first time from August 8 to 10 along the Miryang River, as well as the "Farm Party and Chonkangs" program, which is scheduled to operate between September and October.

Mayor Ahn Byunggu stated, "With this agreement, we will actively develop unique tourism content exclusive to Miryang linked to the railways, and encourage visitors from the metropolitan area to stay in the region, breathing new life into the local commercial districts. We will also expand cooperation with various organizations to create a sustainable tourism city in Miryang."

Meanwhile, the city and Korail Tourism Development previously collaborated in 2023 by operating the "Local 100 Rail Tourism Product" in connection with the Miryang Arirang Grand Festival to attract rail travel tourists. In 2024, they have maintained their cooperative relationship through joint marketing with the Miryang City Tourism Council and by operating rail healing trips with the Miryang City Community Child Center.
