President Lee Visits Honam for the First Time Since Taking Office... Focus Shifts from PK to Honam Public Sentiment Yonhap News Agency

On June 25, President Lee will attend the 'Gwangju Citizens and Residents Town Hall Meeting' at the National Asia Culture Center in Gwangju in the afternoon, where he will listen to the voices of about 100 citizens and residents. This visit is interpreted as an expression of gratitude to Honam, which gave him overwhelming support of over 80% in the last presidential election, and as an opportunity to hear directly what people expect from the new administration.

In particular, after attending the opening ceremony of the Ulsan Data Center on June 20, President Lee visited the Eonyang Alps Market in Ulju County, Ulsan, to gauge the sentiment of local residents. This time, it appears he aims to listen to the voices of people in Honam. During his market visit, President Lee stopped by several shops to purchase buchujeon, gochu twigim, tteokbokki, sundae, sikhye, and jeungpyeon tteok, and also spoke with market vendors.

Additionally, during the cabinet meeting on June 24, President Lee instructed officials to review ways to complete the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Busan within this year, a move seen as an effort to address public sentiment in Busan and Gyeongnam. As a result, there is speculation that he will deliver a message aimed at the people of Honam during this visit. At the event, it is expected that local residents will raise issues such as the relocation of the military airport or the establishment of artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.

Unusually, the event will be broadcast live on television.
