The Gyeonggi Provincial Government Branch of the Korean Government Employees' Union will hold a press conference titled "Condemnation of the Provincial Assembly Member for Sexual Harassment Without Apology or Resignation and Call for Implementation of Disciplinary Action by the Provincial Assembly" in front of the main gate of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government in Gwanggyo, Suwon, on June 26.
On June 25, the branch released a press statement, criticizing, "The voices within the public service demanding accountability from the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly member for sexual harassment remarks have continued, but the member in question is trying to complete the regular session schedule without even offering a formal apology, let alone resigning from the position of Operations Committee Chair."
The branch further pointed out, "The Special Ethics Committee of the Provincial Assembly has not proceeded with the review of the disciplinary proposal. Instead, it has sent the agenda back to the Ethics Review Advisory Committee, which had already submitted its opinion, effectively stalling for time. As a result, there is a high likelihood that substantive disciplinary action will be delayed until August or September."
In response, the branch stated, "The Gyeonggi Provincial Government Branch of the Korean Government Employees' Union plans to hold a press conference and concluding rally on June 26, one day before the end of the regular session, to call for the responsible resignation of the assembly member in question and the implementation of disciplinary action by the Provincial Assembly."
The branch also added, "According to a perception survey conducted among all employees from June 10 to 13, 98% of respondents demanded the resignation of the Operations Committee Chair, and 81% called for expulsion. The demands of public officials have been clearly confirmed."
Meanwhile, Assembly Member A became embroiled in controversy after perverse sexual harassment remarks directed at a new employee of the Provincial Assembly Secretariat were exposed on an internal bulletin board in May. The victim has filed a criminal complaint against Assembly Member A for defamation and has also submitted petitions to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission and other relevant bodies.
