C-Rad Module Added to Halcyon 2.0
Enhancing Precision and Safety in Cancer Radiotherapy
Asia's First Installation at Korea University Anam Hospital
On June 25, Korea University Anam Hospital announced that it has additionally installed a C-Rad module, which enables surface-guided radiation therapy (SGRT), on its Halcyon 2.0 radiotherapy system, the first of its kind to be introduced in Asia.
According to Korea University Anam Hospital, Halcyon 2.0 is a radiotherapy device that enhances both the speed and accuracy of treatment, boasting rapid treatment delivery and excellent precision.
The integration of the C-Rad module has further improved treatment accuracy. The C-Rad module uses a 3D camera to track the patient’s skin surface in real time and automatically detects and adjusts for patient movement during treatment. It ensures that radiation is delivered precisely to the treatment area, even with breathing or subtle changes in posture. This reduces unnecessary radiation exposure to healthy tissue and allows radiation to be concentrated accurately on cancer cells. The effectiveness of surface-guided technology is expected to be particularly significant for treating areas with frequent movement, such as in breast cancer or lung cancer.
Korea University Anam Hospital has consistently raised the standard of cancer radiotherapy in Korea by being among the first to introduce state-of-the-art treatment equipment. The adoption of the C-Rad module is a continuation of this trend, representing a technological advancement aimed at providing safer and more precise radiotherapy.
Lee Namkwon, a professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Korea University Anam Hospital, stated, "The integration of Halcyon 2.0 and the C-Rad module has further enhanced the precision of personalized radiotherapy for each patient. We expect that, based on the latest technology, we will be able to increase treatment safety, minimize side effects, and provide patients with a more comfortable cancer treatment experience."
