"Hello, This Is Dong Chief Jin"... Mayor Jin Kyohun of Gangseo District Tours Neighborhoods

Listening Directly to Residents' Voices and Solving Issues On Site

"Today, I am serving as the Dong chief for the day, Jin."

Jin Kyohun, Mayor of Gangseo District in Seoul, will be touring all 20 dongs of Gangseo District as a "one-day Dong chief" over a three-month period from June 24 to September. This "On (ON) Neighborhood with Dong Chief Jin" program was established to realize an administrative philosophy in which residents are at the center.

Provided by Gangseo District.

Mayor Jin will serve as the Dong chief for a day in each dong, carrying out a tailored schedule that includes presiding over tongjang meetings, receiving civil complaints, conducting field inspections, and conversing with residents. In Hwagok 2-dong, he personally inspects areas where convenience facilities for the mobility-impaired are to be installed; in Deungchon 3-dong, he participates in community volunteer activities and plogging; and in Gayang 2-dong, he checks the condition of the Hwangto-gil facilities in Gongam Naru Neighborhood Park, engaging directly with residents in each location.

Mayor Jin listens directly to residents' inconveniences and suggestions on site, and places emphasis on communication by also checking the work environment and difficulties faced by dong community center staff. On the first day in Hwagok 1-dong, he handled a variety of tasks, including meetings with professional organizations, tongjang meetings, environmental patrols, and attending resident autonomy programs. He identified residents' requests such as the installation of pedestrian paths, crackdowns on illegal garbage dumping, and management of street vendors on site, and ordered immediate action.

This program is particularly meaningful as it strengthens field administration focused on civil complaints and expands the role of the Dong chief from an administrative manager to a problem-solver for local issues.

Mayor Jin stated, "The Dong chief is in an important position to provide administrative services closest to the residents," and added, "Through this one-day Dong chief experience, I will listen directly to the difficulties residents feel in their daily lives and reflect the vivid voices from the field in district administration."
