Approximately 150 people attended the event, including Kang Suhyun, Mayor of Yangju, Yoon Changcheol, Chairperson of the Yangju City Council, city and provincial council members, and local residents, to celebrate the new beginning for improved transportation welfare in the western region.
"Ddokbus," which means "a bus that moves smartly," is a smart transportation service that differs from conventional route buses. Instead of following fixed routes, users can request a vehicle via the "Ddokta" app or by calling the customer service center, and a vehicle will travel to a nearby stop to pick up the passenger.
After a pilot operation in the western region starting June 17, the service will officially launch on June 25, deploying a total of 10 vehicles across three zones: Zone 1 (Baekseok-eup and Gwangjeok-myeon), Zone 2 (Eunhyeon-myeon and Nam-myeon), and Zone 3 (Jangheung-myeon), operating from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Kang Suhyun, Mayor of Yangju, stated, "The introduction of Ddokbus in the western region is an important step toward expanding region-specific transportation services and addressing transportation blind spots in public transit." She added, "Through this project, we expect to move even closer to establishing a citizen-centered transportation environment."
She further remarked, "Ddokbus will not only serve as a simple means of transportation, but will also become a catalyst for improving local settlement conditions and promoting balanced urban development."
