On June 24, Sejong City and Chungbuk Province conducted a joint drill to enhance on-site response capabilities and ensure a swift reaction in the event of various disasters or mass casualty incidents.
At 10:00 a.m. that day, an unannounced disaster medical drill simulating a mass casualty incident was held at Jocheon Bridge in Jochiwon-eup. The drill was organized by the Sejong and Chungbuk Emergency Medical Support Centers and the Sejong Fire Headquarters. Given that Sejong does not have a regional emergency medical center (disaster base hospital), this drill was arranged to establish a cooperative system with Chungbuk in case a disaster occurs in the eastern area of Sejong.
The drill involved five organizations: the rapid response teams from Sejong City Health Center and Cheongju Heungdeok Health Center, the disaster medical teams (DMAT) from Sejong Chungnam National University Hospital and Chungbuk National University Hospital, and the Sejong Northern Fire Station.
Each organization responded according to the following steps: ▲receiving the disaster report ▲arrival and on-site command by the health center rapid response teams and local disaster medical teams ▲establishing a communication system and assessing on-site medical needs ▲setting up and operating an on-site emergency medical station.
Kang Changsu, Director of the Department of Infectious Disease Control, stated, "We conducted this unannounced drill to prepare for unexpected disaster situations." He added, "Based on the results of the drill, we will review the cooperation system among related organizations and establish improvement measures, making greater efforts to strengthen disaster response capabilities."
