A Content Specialist Behind 300 Animation Titles
Acquisition to Broaden the Game-Animation Connection
Krafton announced on June 24 that it has acquired ADK Group (hereafter ADK), one of Japan's top three comprehensive advertising agencies, as part of its efforts to become a global content company.
On this day, Krafton's board of directors approved the acquisition of BCJ-31 Co., Ltd., an affiliate of Bain Capital Japan. The acquisition price is 75 billion yen (710.3 billion KRW). BCJ-31 is the parent company of ADK Holdings, which owns the main subsidiaries under ADK. With this decision, ADK will become a consolidated affiliate of Krafton.
ADK has accumulated specialized expertise across the content and media sectors for approximately 70 years, including participation in the production of more than 300 animation titles. Its annual transaction volume reached 348 billion yen as of last year.
This acquisition was carried out to expand the intersection between games and animation. Krafton plans to combine its global game development and service experience with ADK's planning and production capabilities in animation to jointly create new added value. In addition, Krafton will consider opportunities to expand into the broader Japanese content industry by leveraging ADK's advertising and media infrastructure in Japan.
Krafton CEO Kim Changhan said, "ADK is a partner with a deep understanding of the Japanese content industry. Through this collaboration, we aim to organically combine the strengths of both companies and create new opportunities in the global content business together."
