According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP) on June 22, Jang Seonsinran was admitted to Tsinghua University, one of China's top universities, in 2022 with the highest scores in the Chinese national college entrance exam, the Gaokao. Jang Seonsinran is from a small village in Zhaoan County, Fujian Province, in southeastern China, and became the first student in the village's history to be accepted to Tsinghua University, making her a source of pride for the region. The villagers collected a commemorative scholarship of 105,000 yuan (about 20.2 million won) and presented it to her, but Jang Seonsinran donated it to students in need, moving many people.

Jang Seonsinran recently began attracting attention after opening a social network service (SNS) account. Now a third-year student at the School of Marxism at Tsinghua University, she regularly posted about her daily campus life and conducted live streaming sessions. With her kind impression and exceptional beauty, she quickly rose to become an "SNS star." According to SCMP, her live streams garnered high viewership and she received numerous advertising offers.

However, Jang Seonsinran's father, Jang Jiatian, who works as an education blogger, opposed his daughter's live streaming activities and prohibited her from continuing them. His reason was that live streaming is not suitable for attractive women. He emphasized, "As a university student, it is possible to start a business and build a personal brand, but proper guidance is absolutely necessary. It should not be done blindly."

After his remarks, a debate erupted on local SNS platforms. On one side, there were supportive comments such as, "I understand a father's desire to protect his daughter," "Because of immature viewers, his daughter could get hurt," and "The internet is a scary place." On the other hand, there was criticism: "It's wrong to restrict her career path solely because of her appearance; he is unfit to be a father," "Why should a father intervene when she is old enough to make her own decisions and take responsibility?" and "This is an outdated way of thinking."
