Ongoing Until June 27
Targeting Livestock Product Distribution and Sales Businesses
The Jeonju Agricultural Technology Center in Jeonbuk (Director: Kang Segwon) is conducting the "2025 Summer Livestock and Seafood Business Sanitation Inspection."
According to the Jeonju Agricultural Technology Center on June 24, this sanitation inspection was initiated to prevent food safety incidents such as spoilage and deterioration of livestock products, as well as food poisoning, which can occur due to the hot and humid conditions of the summer season.
The city is conducting this inspection for approximately three weeks until June 27, focusing on hygiene-vulnerable areas and the management of the livestock product traceability system at livestock distribution and sales businesses in the Jeonju area.
The inspection targets include: ▲ companies supplying to school meal services and military procurement ▲ businesses that violated traceability management, including those with genetic test discrepancies in the past year. The main inspection items are: ▲ hygienic handling and transportation of livestock products ▲ compliance with storage and distribution standards (refrigeration and freezing temperatures) ▲ compliance with labeling standards for livestock products ▲ beef traceability and country of origin labeling, among others.
If any violations are found as a result of the inspection, the city will impose fines or administrative measures such as business suspension in accordance with the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act and other relevant laws.
In addition to livestock product inspections, the city is also conducting checks on the labeling of country of origin for seafood at seafood manufacturing, distribution, and sales businesses, as well as restaurants in the Jeonju area. This is intended to eradicate violations related to the labeling of imported seafood and to create an environment where consumers can purchase with confidence.
The city detected a total of 13 major violations last year and this year, which included: ▲ 5 cases of country of origin mislabeling ▲ 4 cases of false livestock product traceability labeling ▲ 2 cases of failure to implement internal hygiene management standards, among others.
Kang Segwon, Director of the Jeonju Agricultural Technology Center, stated, "The risk of food poisoning and other food safety incidents is particularly high during the summer months," and added, "Through this inspection, we will preemptively block the distribution of inappropriate livestock products and establish a safe distribution environment that citizens can trust."
