This year marks the 10th edition of the contest, which is a major global beauty industry competition hosted by the International Health and Beauty Professionals Association and supported by Busan Metropolitan City and the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education. More than 600 domestic beauty students and international participants from countries such as Taiwan, Japan, and Vietnam submitted over 1,200 works.
Dongmyung University continued its winning streak by excelling in all hair categories, including: ▲Best Grand Prix (senior Park Hyebin), ▲Busan Mayor’s Award (junior Kim Minju), ▲Creative Upstyle Award (freshman An Soyeon), ▲Permanent Winding·9-Section Award (sophomore Park Jinseo), and ▲Isadora Cut Award (senior Lee Jiye).
The university set a record by sweeping the top prizes across various technical categories.
Park Hyebin said, "It is truly an honor to receive the highest award in the competition. I owe it to the meticulous guidance of my professors," and added, "I will strive to become a designer who promotes K-Hair Design to the world."
Department head Kim Seoin stated, "Our students have enhanced the brand value of the department by winning the top award for eight consecutive years," and emphasized, "We will continue to participate in domestic and international beauty competitions, including the Tokyo Sassoon Haircut Contest and the Busan Mayor’s Cup Beauty Skills Competition."
Dongmyung University is the only four-year university in Korea to have a partnership (schoolship) with the Vidal Sassoon Academy in the United Kingdom, operating an educational system in which the London headquarters director gives lectures twice a year.
On July 3 and in mid-September, Mark Hayes, the chief designer at Sassoon London, will visit Korea to hold a hair trend seminar for Busan citizens, high school students, and industry professionals.
