Korea Shipping Association Opens First Overseas District Council in Shanghai, China

The Korea Shipping Association announced on June 24 that it has established its first overseas district council since its founding, opening the new office in Shanghai, China.

The Shanghai District Council is located within the Pan Ocean China Branch in Pudong New Area. Bang Sangdu, the Pan Ocean China Branch Manager, has been appointed as the inaugural chairman.

The opening ceremony, held the previous day, was attended by Lee Cheoljung, Executive Director of the Association; Bang Sangdu, Chairman of the Council; Kim Taeil, Head of the KMI Shanghai Center; Hwang Injung, Head of the Busan Port Authority Shanghai Representative Office; Moon Junseong, Deputy Head of the Incheon Port Authority Shanghai Representative Office; and Park Jino, Head of the Export-Import Bank of Korea Shanghai Representative Office.

In his welcoming remarks, Lee Cheoljung stated, "Shanghai is the heart of China's economy and a hub for global shipping, and our national shipping companies have played a pivotal role in the development of Korea-China trade. The Shanghai District Council will strengthen its network with local organizations and respond quickly to market changes to secure a unique competitive advantage."

He added, "I ask that you further solidify local partnerships to expand the influence of national shipping companies in China and present a new model for Korea-China maritime exchange. The Association will also provide full support for the success of the council."
