The Metropolitan Transport Commission of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 25th that it will hold the first Mobility as a Service (MaaS) Forum.
Mobility as a Service refers to a service that integrates information such as schedules, seat availability, reservations, and payment details for various modes of transportation, including railways, buses, and airlines, and provides this data to public or private platform operators. Previously, users had to install separate applications for each mode of transportation and go through individual registration and reservation procedures, which was inconvenient. The goal is to promote such services so that users can book various transportation modes at once through a single app.
The forum will discuss ways to establish a collaborative system among relevant agencies in order to promote these services. Stakeholders and experts from each field will gather to set policy directions. On this day, Professor Jung Jinhyuk of Yonsei University will serve as the chair of the forum. A total of 24 organizations from industry, academia, and research, including the transportation industry, platform companies, and research institutes, will participate. Going forward, the forum will be held quarterly to share MaaS policies and trends, and to discuss topics such as data standardization and integration between different modes of transportation.
Kang Heeup, Chairperson of the Metropolitan Transport Commission, stated, "Globally, changes in the mobility sector are happening at a very rapid pace, and user demands are becoming increasingly diverse. In this context, Mobility as a Service can revolutionize the convenience of travel for the public. We have created a forum for relevant agencies and experts to collaborate and discuss these issues."
