Expansion of Seoul-bound Exit Ramp at Cheongna IC on Incheon Airport Expressway to Begin Next Month

The project to expand the Seoul-bound exit ramp at the Cheongna tollgate on the Incheon International Airport Expressway will begin next month.

Incheon Urban Corporation (iH) announced on the 24th that it has prepared a construction plan with a budget of approximately 20.6 billion won to alleviate chronic congestion on the Seoul-bound ramp at Cheongna IC, which opened in June 2013.

This road has been experiencing severe traffic congestion during commuting hours due to the population of Cheongna International City exceeding its planned capacity of 90,000, reaching 120,000 people, as well as the influx of about 60,000 additional residents and increased traffic volume resulting from the Gajeong 1 and 2 public housing districts and the development of Lu1 City.

iH expects that, upon completion of the project, the traffic volume on the Cheongna IC ramp (1,900 vehicles per hour) will be reduced to less than half, significantly improving traffic service.

In September 2023, iH agreed to cooperate with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and New Airport Highway for the early opening of the Seoul-bound exit ramp at Cheongna IC. In February, iH received approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for the road zone designation (change) and a permit for construction by a non-management agency, thereby officially launching the project.

Ryu Yunki, President of iH, said, "With this expansion, we aim to open the ramp in the first half of 2027 and improve the residential environment for residents suffering from severe traffic congestion."
