President Lee Holds First Phone Talks with Indonesian President... "Strengthening Strategic Cooperation in Advanced Future Industries and Defense"

Exchange of Views on Advancing the Special Strategic Partnership

On June 23, President Lee Jaemyung held a phone conversation with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, during which they exchanged views on ways to advance the special strategic partnership between their two countries.

On the same day, spokesperson Kang Yujeong stated in a written briefing that President Prabowo congratulated President Lee on his inauguration and expressed his hope for close cooperation, saying, "I look forward to working closely together so that the relationship with Korea, our long-standing friend and strategic partner, can reach new heights."


During the call, President Lee emphasized, "Our government places great importance on our relationship with Indonesia, which is a key partner within ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and the country where our companies made their first overseas investments, marking a special connection."


He also highly commended the fact that, since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1973, the two countries have developed their special strategic partnership in various areas, including politics and security, the economy, society and culture, and on the international stage.


The two leaders agreed to continue strengthening strategic cooperation in a wide range of fields, including trade and investment, advanced future industries that respond to digital and green transitions, as well as defense and the defense industry.


Meanwhile, President Lee invited President Prabowo to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit to be held in Gyeongju this October.


Spokesperson Kang stated, "The two leaders agreed to maintain close communication through active exchanges on various occasions, in order to further develop bilateral relations and jointly contribute to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region."
