Song Miryung, the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs who has retained her post in the Lee Jaemyung administration, stated on the 23rd, "Policies and bills that have been points of contention so far will be actively re-examined in line with the new government's national philosophy."
In a statement released on the 23rd, Minister Song said, "I feel a great sense of responsibility for being retained as minister. At a time when change and innovation are needed in agriculture and rural communities, I will devote myself even more to the happiness of farmers and the public."
She added, "While responding consistently to current issues in agriculture and rural areas, such as changes in agriculture due to climate change and the extinction of rural communities, I will do my utmost to implement the new administration's agricultural policies with a spirit of self-renewal, so that we can meet expectations through tangible results."
Previously, during the Yoon Sukyeol administration, Minister Song expressed opposition to the Grain Management Act amendment, the Agricultural and Fishery Disaster Insurance Act amendment, and the Agricultural and Fishery Disaster Countermeasures Act, all of which were promoted by the Democratic Party of Korea.
The Korean Peasants League demanded the withdrawal of Minister Song's retention, stating, "Minister Song Miryung led the Yoon Sukyeol administration's policies that destroyed agriculture and suppressed farmers, and abetted the 12·3 insurrection as the 'insurrection minister.'"
