Future Agriculture Vision, Promotion of Return-to-Farming and Rural Migration, and Regional Promotion
Uiryeong County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on the 23rd that it received the Best Local Government Award (Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Award) at the "2025 Kukmin Farm EXPO," which was held at the aT Center in Yangjae, Seoul, from June 20 to June 22.
At this expo, which was attended by more than 50 local governments nationwide, the Best Local Government Award was selected based on evaluation criteria such as ▲Future Agriculture Vision (30%), ▲Promotion of Return to Farming and Rural Migration (20%), and ▲Regional Promotion (20%).
Uiryeong County received the highest scores in the evaluation categories and earned the honor of being selected as the only local government nationwide to receive the Best Local Government Award.
The county received high marks for effectively implementing policies to increase the population returning to farming and rural areas, as evidenced by the recent sharp rise in the number of young households returning to farming and rural life.
As of the end of May this year, the number of households returning to farming and rural areas in Uiryeong County stood at 517, an increase of 38 households compared to the previous year and 133 households compared to two years ago, reflecting a rapid surge in the young population returning to farming and rural communities.
In particular, the county's tailored youth hope project, the "Youth Policy Package Project," which includes the "Youth Return-to-Farming Start-up Support Project," "New Farmer On-site Training Program," support for young people purchasing used cars, and the "Youth Half-Price Rental Housing Project," received high praise for its synergistic effects in supporting young returnees to farming.
Meanwhile, under the theme "The No.1 Wealthy Region, Uiryeong," the expo featured various customized consultation programs for urban residents and young people, introducing the county's major ongoing projects such as the Return-to-Farming Settlement Support Project, Housing Repair Support Project for Returnees, and Farmland Lease Support Project for Returnees.
County Governor Oh Tae-wan stated, "Winning the Best Local Government Award has become an opportunity to widely promote Uiryeong County's successful return-to-farming and rural settlement model nationwide." He added that the county will further strengthen policy foundations and promotional activities so that urban residents can settle in Uiryeong County with stability.
