Ordinance on the Introduction of AI Technology
Passes Standing Committee Review
Kim Kyunho, a member of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council and Chair of the Planning and General Affairs Committee, announced on June 23 that the ordinance bill he proposed, titled "Ordinance on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Seo-gu Administration, Gwangju," was passed by the relevant standing committee during the 331st 1st regular session.
With this, a regulatory basis has been established to create administrative and institutional foundations for providing efficient and stable administrative services through the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
The newly enacted "Ordinance on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Seo-gu Administration" mainly consists of the following: responsibilities, management system, basic principles, introduction and use of AI technology, formation and operation of the AI Administration Promotion Committee, education and publicity, resident participation, evaluation, and feedback.
In February of this year, the government additionally selected ten new public sector projects that incorporate artificial intelligence (AI), such as the "Development and Demonstration of AI-based Intelligent Record Information Search Solution (National Archives of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety)."
In addition, local governments across the country are accelerating the adoption of AI administration in various areas such as trade, safety, and civil services. For example, Suwon City has established the "Suwon-type SME AI Trade Office," and Gyeongsangnam-do has built a "Forest Fire Prevention ICT Platform."
Kim stated, "Artificial intelligence is a core technology of the 'Fourth Industrial Revolution,' bringing about innovative changes throughout society," and added, "The use of artificial intelligence is already leading to more efficient policy decisions and transformative changes in administrative services."
He continued, "It is important for residents to adapt to and utilize these environmental changes in a stable manner," and said, "Based on this ordinance, I expect Seo-gu administration to undergo progressive changes that allow residents to experience easier access and more convenient use."
Meanwhile, Seo-gu plans to introduce an "AI Response System" to improve the efficiency of on-call duty, and the Seo-gu Council will hold an "AI Job Competency Training" session on June 27 to enhance understanding and utilization of AI.
