On June 23 at around 11 a.m., the Criminal Division 9 Single Judge of the Seoul Southern District Court (Presiding Judge Ko Soyoung) held a hearing for Jeon, who has been indicted on charges of violating the Political Funds Act.

Jeon entered the courtroom without responding to reporters' questions, such as "Do you have any comment on the fact that you will be investigated by a special prosecutor regarding Mrs. Kim?" and "Did you ever deliver any requests or gifts from the Unification Church to Mrs. Kim?"

Jeon is on trial for allegedly receiving about 100 million won in January 2018, ahead of the 7th nationwide local elections, from a candidate of the Liberty Korea Party (the predecessor of the People Power Party), promising to secure the party's nomination for mayor of Yeongcheon, North Gyeongsang Province, in exchange for so-called 'prayer fees.' Prosecutors are considering amending the indictment to add charges of fraud against Jeon in this case.

Jeon is also under investigation for allegedly receiving luxury handbags and diamond necklaces from Yoon, the former global director of the Unification Church, with the intent of lobbying Mrs. Kim.
