The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 23rd that it will lift the administrative guidance suspending new business operations of SK Telecom starting from the 24th.
The Ministry of Science and ICT had previously issued administrative guidance on May 1, requiring SKT to completely halt the recruitment of new subscribers until the supply of USIM cards stabilized after the USIM information leak incident. At that time, the administrative guidance was issued in response to a shortage of USIM cards for replacement, and entailed a temporary suspension of SKT's new mobile service operations.
The Ministry of Science and ICT determined that SKT is now able to secure a supply of USIM cards exceeding future replacement demand, and that the supply of USIM cards has stabilized as a new reservation system has been in place since the 20th.
However, the ministry requested that, even after the resumption of new business operations, SKT should prioritize the replacement of USIM cards for existing subscribers above all else.
