Gwangjin District in Seoul will host the "2025 Gwangjin Residents' Thrifty Book Free Exchange Market" to promote a culture of reading and put the value of resource circulation into practice.
This event is expected to provide an opportunity for residents to share books that are too precious to keep to themselves, spread inspiration among neighbors, and experience the excitement and joy of discovering a new life-changing book among secondhand books.
The event, organized by the Saemaeul Library Gwangjin Branch, will take place from June 25 to 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in front of Exit 5 of Gunja Station. Around 1,500 books, prepared through donations and other means, will be available. Any Gwangjin resident who loves books is welcome to participate.
Each person can exchange up to three books. Only books published after 2017 that are not contaminated or damaged are eligible for exchange. Textbooks, study guides, general magazines, comic books, and books published before 2016 are excluded from the exchange. For more details, contact the Saemaeul Library Gwangjin Branch at 457-5571 or the Lifelong Education Division of Gwangjin District Office at 450-7558.
Kim Kyungho, Mayor of Gwangjin District, said, "It is regrettable that books often remain on the shelf after being read only once or twice," and added, "I would like to thank the Saemaeul Library Gwangjin Branch for creating an opportunity for residents to choose and share books, bringing them closer to reading."
Meanwhile, residents who wish to donate books can apply at the Gwangjin District Library. The library collects donated books to add to its collection and provide services to users. Materials already in the collection are distributed to those in need, such as small libraries, local children's centers, and school libraries, as part of an ongoing donation campaign in the district.
