[Market Focus] RS Automation Localizes Core Technology for Interceptor Missiles... Multiple Defense Companies Inquire

Shares of RS Automation, a company specializing in robot motion control, are showing strong performance. The news that the company has completed the development and localization of all models of its capacitive encoder, which is being developed as a national project, appears to be influencing the stock price. Mass production is expected to begin in earnest in the second half of this year.

As of 1:29 p.m. on June 23, RS Automation was trading at 16,200 won, up 7.57% from the previous trading day.

Previously, in December 2023, RS Automation announced that it had completed the development of an ultra-compact capacitive encoder, becoming the first in Korea and the second in the world after Israel, and disclosed its goal for commercialization. Capacitive encoders are recognized as essential components in guided weapons due to their excellent ability to overcome interference from vibration or electromagnetic waves, and have been applied to Israel's Iron Dome system.

RS Automation's capacitive encoder is 20-30% the size of a typical encoder, and its power consumption is only about 10% of that of conventional models. This makes it highly valuable for use in various advanced industries of the future that require premium mobile robots and ultra-compact drones, where low power consumption is essential.

Last year, RS Automation passed performance evaluations for its analog-type encoder and completed a patent application earlier this year. The company recently announced that it has also completed the independent development of its digital-type encoder, meaning that development of all models for guided weapon applications has essentially been completed.

The analog type is relatively inexpensive and has a less complex circuit structure, but is vulnerable to noise. In contrast, the digital type features a more complex circuit structure and is relatively more expensive, but offers advantages such as advanced communication methods and error diagnostics. As the industry trend shifts toward digital types, both analog and digital types are being utilized depending on the application.

Kang Deokhyun, CEO of RS Automation, stated, "With defense technologies such as interceptor missiles drawing attention due to recent conflicts such as the Israel-Iran war, localization of key components is essential for building the K-Iron Dome. RS Automation is now able to supply both analog and digital types of capacitive encoders for various forms of interceptor missiles, and we have already received inquiries from several defense-related companies and institutions."

RS Automation also plans to utilize its ultra-compact capacitive encoder not only in the smart actuators of collaborative robots currently under development, but also as a core sensor in the ongoing construction of the K-humanoid robot architecture.
