Yongin Mayor Lee Sangil: "Semiconductor Belt Development and Easing of Regulated Zones Will Change Yongin's Future" Lee Sangil, mayor of Yongin, is explaining the city administration plan at the 3rd anniversary press conference of the 8th elected term held at the city hall on the 23rd. Lee Sangil, mayor of Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province, cited the creation of a large-scale semiconductor manufacturing and research belt in the Cheoin-gu and Giheung-gu areas, as well as the lifting of regulations such as the Songtan Water Source Protection Zone and the Gyeongan Stream Waterfront Zone, as the most significant achievements of the three years under the 8th elected administration.

At the 3rd anniversary media briefing of the 8th elected term held at city hall on the 23rd, Mayor Lee stated that the advanced system semiconductor national industrial complex in Idong and Namsa-eup, the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster in Wonsam-myeon, and the Samsung Electronics Giheung Future Research Complex are bringing about innovative changes to Yongin's local infrastructure and economy, going beyond simply attracting semiconductor companies.

Mayor Lee said, "The advanced system semiconductor national industrial complex, where six Samsung Electronics production lines will be established, is a project that will change the future of Yongin," adding, "With the site for the industrial complex now confirmed, the construction of road and railway networks that were previously difficult to pursue is now underway." He cited the Idong public housing district, which will serve as a new city supporting the semiconductor industry, the extension of the Gyeonggang Line from Gwangju Station to Namsa, and the lifting of the Songtan Water Source Protection Zone as representative examples.

In particular, Mayor Lee emphasized his intention to maximize the use of local resources in the process of creating the semiconductor belt, in order to generate a virtuous cycle effect for the economy. He said, "Since February, SK hynix, which began fab construction at the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster industrial complex, is currently using 33.2 billion won worth of Yongin-based labor, materials, and equipment," adding, "A total of 450 billion won in local resources will be used for just the first fab, which will greatly benefit the local economy."

He also identified the expansion of cultural and sports infrastructure in line with urban growth as one of the key projects for the fourth year of his term. Mayor Lee explained, "Yongin is growing into a large city with a population of 1.5 million, surpassing its status as a special city, thanks to a steady influx of people," and added, "We will continue to expand libraries, welfare centers, cultural centers, and leisure spaces to match the scale of the city."

In particular, Mayor Lee is putting significant effort into the Yongin Citizen Professional Football Club, which is preparing to participate in the K League 2 next year. He said, "The citizen professional football club will not only serve as a focal point for citizen unity but also enhance the city's brand value," adding, "It will also help promote and utilize the excellent infrastructure of Yongin Mir Stadium."

He also plans to continue efforts to communicate with citizens. He emphasized, "Taking care of people's livelihoods starts with meeting and listening to residents, so I have continuously met with citizens over the past three years of the 8th elected term," and added, "I will not stop communicating in the fourth year of my term and will continue to address and resolve citizens' difficulties."

Mayor Lee also made his intention to seek re-election clear. He said, "I am confident that I have laid the groundwork for Yongin's great leap forward during my term," adding, "If citizens entrust me with responsibility and duties again, I will do my best."
