Police Arrest 20 Koreans in Thailand for Romance Scam and Kidnapping Charges

Recently, 20 Korean suspects were arrested in connection with a romance scam and kidnapping case involving Koreans in Thailand.

According to the National Police Agency on June 23, a joint operation between police attach?s dispatched to Thailand and the Thai Immigration Police led to the arrest of 20 Korean suspects on June 21. One Chinese national who participated in the crime was also apprehended.


The police believe that the group operated a romance scam based in a luxury pool villa in the Bang Lamung area of Pattaya, Chonburi Province, Thailand. At the scene, a whiteboard with Korean-language phrases used in fraudulent conversations was also discovered.


During the arrests, the police rescued one Korean victim who had been confined. This victim is reported to have been forcibly mobilized to participate in online scam activities.


A National Police Agency official stated, "We are conducting further investigations into the circumstances of the case and the methods used in the crime."
