The 'Visiting Driver's License Civil Service,' conducted by Korea Zinc Onsan Smelter in collaboration with the Ulsan Driver’s License Test Center of the Korea Road Traffic Authority from June 19 to 20, was held at the Onsan Smelter and company housing areas. The main purpose of this service is to assist employees who find it difficult to visit the driver’s license test center on weekdays, enabling them to easily process their civil affairs within the company during working hours.

According to the Ulsan Driver’s License Test Center of the Korea Road Traffic Authority, the number of people in the Ulsan area required to undergo aptitude tests (renewals) this year increased by about 30,000 compared to the previous year, totaling 116,957. This means that one out of every ten Ulsan citizens is subject to the test. However, only about 20% of the eligible individuals, or 23,457 people, completed the aptitude test in the first quarter of this year. Therefore, if the number of applicants surges toward the end of the year, inconvenience due to longer waiting times for citizens is anticipated.

To enhance convenience for employees of the Onsan Smelter, affiliates, partner companies, and families residing in company housing, Korea Zinc conducted a preliminary survey of demand for the 'Visiting Driver's License Civil Service.' The company then set up dedicated civil service counters at the training center of Plant 1 and the welfare center lobby in the company housing area. At these counters, a one-stop service was provided, covering everything from document preparation to renewal application.

This 'Visiting Driver's License Civil Service' received a positive response, with about 70 employees from Korea Zinc, its affiliates, and partner companies participating. An employee of Korea Zinc Onsan Smelter commented, "I was able to conveniently take care of driver’s license issuance and renewal services within the company, which I would otherwise have had to handle on my day off. It was very convenient and satisfactory to have even the license delivery processed on-site."

A representative of Korea Zinc Onsan Smelter stated, "Expanding the recipients of this civil service to include not only Onsan Smelter employees but also partner companies is part of our 'mutual growth welfare' initiative. We will continue to develop a variety of on-site support programs that encompass safety, welfare, and convenience, and expand customized welfare systems that take into account the unique characteristics of our working environment."
