Chosun University Hospital is realizing patient-centered smart healthcare by leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The hospital has introduced a variety of AI-powered diagnostic assistance solutions and analysis systems throughout its facilities, enhancing not only the accuracy and speed of medical services but also patient satisfaction.

According to Chosun University Hospital on June 23, the AI-based chest and lung CT automatic image analysis solution, LuCAS, automatically detects and quantifies lung nodules from CT images to assist in diagnosis. The entire process is fully automated, and the system remains on standby 24 hours a day, beginning analysis immediately after imaging and rapidly providing a preliminary interpretation, thereby reducing wait times.

In the emergency room, AI brain image analysis technology is applied to stroke patients. An AI solution based on non-contrast CT quickly determines the presence of cerebral hemorrhage and cerebral infarction, playing a significant role in overcoming the "golden hour." In particular, the AI perfusion imaging technology can extend the window for reperfusion therapy up to 24 hours, offering more patients the opportunity for life-saving treatment.

AI is also driving innovation in the MRI field. With the introduction of a deep learning-based MRI acceleration solution, examination times have been reduced by 20 to 30 minutes. Currently, the hospital utilizes AI features embedded in MRI equipment to enhance image quality while maintaining examination efficiency.

Recently, Chosun University Hospital became the first in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions to introduce and operate the three-dimensional automated breast ultrasound system (invenia ABUS 2.0). This device performs automated breast ultrasound examinations using a motorized system, and AI analyzes the three-dimensional breast ultrasound data to automatically detect abnormal areas. This allows for objective confirmation of tumor location and size, supporting medical staff in making more accurate and efficient diagnoses and interpretations.

Additionally, Chosun University Hospital is participating in the "K-Health National Medical AI Service Project." The hospital is building an integrated medical data platform centered on the Gwangju region and establishing an AI-based emergency medical system for hospitals, thereby expanding the smart healthcare ecosystem in collaboration with the local community.

This initiative aligns with President Lee Jaemyung's pledge for Gwangju Metropolitan City to establish an "AI National Pilot City," and is expected to serve as an important foundation for the simultaneous growth of the region's AI industry and future medical innovation.

Furthermore, the hospital is applying AI solutions in various areas, including cardiac arrest prediction, spinal disease diagnosis, and bone age assessment. These technologies assist medical staff in diagnosis and enable real-time monitoring of patient conditions for early intervention.

Hospital Director Kim Jinho stated, "Chosun University Hospital is transforming the paradigm of medical care and research based on artificial intelligence and big data. The adoption of AI technologies in various fields, such as CT, MRI, stroke diagnosis, and biosignal analysis, is improving not only diagnostic accuracy but also patient safety and satisfaction. We will continue to build a patient-centered smart healthcare environment and strive to become a leading hospital in future medicine."
